About Ivy Acres.... ![]()
|
| Jack Van de Wetering started building Ivy Acres in the early 1960's. He owned a small piece
of land and grew greenhouse tomatoes. After realizing that there was no profit to be made
with tomatoes, he switched to annuals. From that point on, Ivy
Acres has grown into one of the major suppliers of bedding plants in the
northeast. Today, Ivy Acres encompasses approximately 23 acres and employs a staff of 200 at the height of the season. |

Ivy Acres
is on the cutting edge of technology in the horticultural industry. In conjunction
with the Harrison Transplanter Company, Ivy Acres
was one of the first companies in the country to have an automatic transplanter. The
transplanter enables greenhouse space to be filled rapidly. Another system that helps us achieve great efficiencies is our roll out benches. They allow us to "double-crop" our growing capacity in the greenhouse. Currently we produce over 70 million plants per year including a wide assortment of bulbs, perennials, annuals, mums and poinsettias. The roll out benches also enable us to acclimate the plant material to actual garden conditions, allowing for longer shelf life at the store level and greater success for the gardner. |
| Strict quality and inventory controls quarantee
that only plants meeting our high standards are delivered to the retailers. One of Ivy Acres best kept secrets is a highly efficient
delivery system that can ship over one million plants per day. Deliveries are made
with our own fleet of trucks. Lift-gates and rolling carts expedite the delivery
process. In a naturally short, intense spring, it is imperative that Ivy Acres use "just-in-time" delivery.
Retailers can rely on it.

In an effort to better service our customers in
the Southern northest market, Ivy Acres

have been erected and more are planned for the future.
